Le Okok est une plante ou légume beaucoup apprécié au Cameroun, car il fait des plats traditionnels du peuple Beti dont il porte le nom en langue locale. La plante est appelée Ikok par les Bassa, Okok chez les Béti ; Eru chez les Banyang, Ikiokio chez les Yambassa, Kiwa chez les Bafia, Koko à l’Est du Cameroun ou encore Ekoke chez les Douala.
Riche en potassium, phosphore, fer , calcium , lipides, cellulose, et beaucoup de fibres végétales , On lui reconnait des vertus thérapeutiques.
